Julia Scodie – Founder & Lead Pilates Instructor
Back in 2011 I took the plunge and left my full-time Project Manager job to focus on setting up Exercise in the City. Like many, I found it hard to find the time, and often motivation, to go to the gym or exercise after work. So I had the idea to make it easier by bringing Pilates and fitness classes directly to the workplace.
Initially it was just me teaching Pilates, but after reaching full capacity and seeing demand for other classes too, I recruited others and now work with a team of fantastic fitness instructors to bring Pilates, Circuits, HIIT, Yoga, Zumba and more of your favourite classes directly to workplaces across London.
…And I know it works. I first started Pilates through weekly classes in my office, during a lunch break, in a meeting room with desks and chairs pushed to the side! The opportunity to get away from my desk for an hour, network with colleagues, and generally re-energise and stretch always made me more productive and focused for the afternoon.
Why I love Pilates I’ve been practising Pilates for over 10 years and am qualified as a STOTT PILATES® instructor. After my first lesson I was hooked. I used to suffer from back pain and general muscle tightness due to a curvature of the spine. Within a couple of sessions I started feeling the benefits, and after just a few months I could really feel how my strength and muscle tone had improved. I decided to train to become an instructor as I wanted to learn more about the technique and teach others so they can experience the benefits that I have.
